In the third quarter, the economy contracted 0.2% over the previous quarter, according to revised estimates. The figure was a notch above the flash estimate and represented the first contraction since 2009. Meanwhile, recent data suggest further deterioration in the fourth quarter, with December consumer sentiment falling to a record low. In addition, business confidence continued its decline and dropped in November to its lowest level since January 2010.
