MALAYSIA
Snapshot
Malaysia’s export-driven economy slowed in the last quarter of 2011 due to cooling external demand, although this was partially offset by supportive public spending. GDP rose 5.2% in the fourth quarter of 2011, down from a 5.8% expansion in the previous period. In the full year 2011, GDP increased 5.1%, markedly below the healthy 7.2% expansion seen in 2010.
