GDP in Macedonia
Macedonia - GDPThe ruling coalition led by the VMRO-DPMNE party only won by a tiny margin in the 11 December parliamentary elections. VMRO-DPMNE itself lost its parliamentary majority and obtained only two more seats than the main opposition party. Though the ruling party is expected to form a government, the electoral outcome is unlikely to put an end to the country’s over two-year political crisis. Alleged irregularities during polling and the fragmented composition of parliament will yield a fragile coalition government. This, in turn, will relegate the implementation of long-sought reforms and measures to tackle endemic corruption and structural unemployment to the back burner. Lastly, the ongoing political tension will stave off investment in the economy.
