GDP in Macedonia
Macedonia - GDPGlimmers of hope that Macedonia’s two-year long political crisis could come to an end emerged on 17 May when the country’s president gave in and granted opposition leader Zoran Zaev the mandate to form a government. The decision will help diffuse soaring tensions, which reached a peak last month, and enabled Zaev to form a government weeks later. The new Prime Minister, however, will inherit a politically polarized public sector and faces the challenging task of normalizing political activity to attract investors. The collapse in fixed investment was largely why growth reached a multi-year low in 2016 and reform implementation needs to resume to convey the notion of growing political stability and unblock frozen EU accession talks.
