GDP in Macedonia
Macedonia - GDPThe ongoing political crisis in Macedonia took a turn for the worse in March. The President refused to grant the opposition SDSM party a mandate to form a coalition government with ethnic Albanian parties, a decision the opposition has denounced as an attempted coup. This has plunged Macedonia into a constitutional crisis and no clear solution to the over-two-year-long political stalemate is in sight. In turn, lingering political uncertainty and fears of growing ethnic tensions in the country spell bad news for the economy. A solution to the political crisis is necessary to pave the way for stronger growth and the lack of a functioning government will delay talks over accession to the EU.
