GDP in Macedonia
Macedonia - GDPThe prolonged political crisis took a turn for the worse after an angry mob stormed Parliament and assaulted MPs from the leading opposition party on 27 April. The event reflects a dangerous spike in ethnic tensions as demonstrators stormed the building while lawmakers were voting to elect a Parliament speaker from the ethnic Albanian minority. While international bodies and foreign governments have pleaded with protestors to refrain from violence, the incident raises fears of growing instability with profound consequences. The economy already decelerated to a three-year low in 2015 dragged by a steep decline in fixed investment. The sour political climate staved off investment and if the crisis persists, the economy will continue being a casualty.
