GDP in Macedonia
Macedonia - GDPThe latest data confirm that the Macedonian economy is losing steam. Growth in Q3 moderated to 2.4% annually as a contraction in government consumption and fixed investment hampered growth, and cumulative growth for the January-September period reached 2.7%, below the 3.1% expansion observed in the same period of 2015. The country’s two-year-long political crisis is largely to blame for the drop in investment and consequently the slowdown. On the political scene, December’s elections have failed to break the political deadlock as the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party failed to meet a key deadline to form a government on 30 January. The ruling party wants to hold fresh elections to end the deadlock while the opposition SDSM party is hoping that the country’s president will entrust it with the task of forming a government.
