Vietnam: Inflation in April jumps to highest level since November 2014

In April, consumer prices increased 0.30% over the previous month, which came in below March’s 0.57% rise. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, April’s hike in prices reflected higher prices in 1 of the 11 components of the index.

Inflation edged up from 1.7% in March to 1.9% in April, tallying the highest reading since November 2014. Meanwhile, annual average inflation remained steady at the 0.8% reading tallied in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 2.2% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. According to the panel, average inflation will accelerate to 3.8% in 2017.
