United Arab Emirates: Inflation falls in August

In August, consumer prices dropped 0.28% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.29% increase observed in July. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, transportation saw the largest monthly decrease in prices in August, followed by miscellaneous good and services. Conversely, food and soft drinks registered the largest increase.

Inflation fell from July’s 1.8% to 0.6% in August, while annual average inflation dropped from 2.8% in July to 2.4% in August, the lowest level since December 2014.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 2.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees inflation increasing slightly to 2.9%.
