Thailand: Manufacturing deteriorates in April

June 6, 2016

In April, manufacturing production increased 1.5% over the same month last year, which was down from the 2.2% increase observed in March that had marked the highest figure in eight months. The result was mainly driven by increasing refinery output and textiles manufacturing.

On a monthly basis, manufacturing output decreased 0.1% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.6% increase tallied in March. Moreover, annual average growth in industrial production moved up from a flat reading in March to a 0.1% increase in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecasts panelists expect manufacturing to contract 3.5% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel expects manufacturing to increase 3.0%.
