In October, industrial output increased 8.5% annually, which was above the 5.1% expansion recorded in September. The acceleration in industrial production was mainly driven by manufacturing and mining, as both categories picked up the pace over the previous month. Manufacturing output, which accounts for the bulk of industrial production, rose 8.4% over the same month last year, more than double the 3.9% pace recorded in the previous month. Mining and quarrying grew 24.5%, which was above the 22.5% increase in September. On the other hand, electricity, gas and water supply added 3.6%, down from the 13.6% expansion observed in September. Seasonally adjusted data do not corroborate the pick-up suggested by the annual data, as industrial production contracted 0.6% over September. However, annual average growth in industrial production jumped from 2.6% to 5.6% in October.
