In March, consumer prices increased 0.3% over the previous month, which was a tad above the 0.2% rise recorded in February. The monthly reading mainly reflected rising prices for food, beverages and tobacco. Owing to the subdued print, annual headline inflation was unchanged in March at 3.8%, the lowest level since July last year. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer price) was 4.2% in March, unchanged from the result recorded in the previous month. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 2.8% in 2012 before moderating to 1.9% in 2013.
