In May, consumer prices added 0.1% over the previous month, which was below the 0.3% increase recorded in April. The monthly reading mainly reflected rising prices for clothing and footwear, which were partially offset by lower transport costs. Annual headline inflation dropped from 3.6% in April to 3.4% in May, which represents its lowest level since February last year. Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) inched down from 4.2% in April to 4.1% in May. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 3.5% in 2012 before moderating to 1.7% in 2013.
