In October, consumer prices increased 0.2% over the previous month, which was below the 0.3% rise recorded in September. The increase mainly reflected higher prices for food and housing. Annual headline inflation inched up from 4.3% in September to 4.4% in October, the highest rate since November 2008. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) edged up from 2.9% in August to 3.2% in September, the latest month for which data is available. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 4.2% this year before moderating to 3.0% in 2012.
