Serbia: Inflation eases again in April

In April, consumer prices increased 0.4% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.1% decrease tallied in the previous month. According to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS), April’s print mainly reflected an increase in prices for transport as well as for clothing and footwear.

Inflation in April eased from 0.6% in March to 0.4%, thus hitting the lowest reading since January 2015. Annual average inflation inched down from 1.5% in March to 1.4% in April.

Meanwhile, core inflation, which does not include more volatile categories such as energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, was stable in April at March’s 0.7%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that inflation will average 1.8% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees inflation at 3.3%.
