Romania: Industrial production growth soars in March

May 11, 2017

Industrial output rose 10.3% in March from the same month last year, up from February’s 5.2% increase. According to the National Institute of Statistics, production in the manufacturing sector accelerated strongly, offsetting a slowdown in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector and a fall into contractionary territory in the mining and quarrying sector.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production grew 2.6% in March, up from February’s revised 1.3% increase (previously reported: +0.6% month-on-month). Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose to 3.5% in March (February: +2.8%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 3.8% in 2018.
