Romania: Economic growth ticks up in Q4; full-year 2015 growth at seven-year high

In the fourth quarter, the economy expanded 3.7% over the same period of the previous year, according to preliminary data released on 12 February. The figure marked a slight acceleration over Q3’s 3.6% expansion. Full-year GDP growth came in at 3.7% in 2015, which was a pickup from 2014’s 3.0% rise and the fastest expansion since 2009.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP rose 1.1% in seasonally-adjusted terms in Q4, which followed the larger 1.5% increase tallied in Q3. More detailed data will be released on 8 March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to grow 3.8% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s projection. For 2017, the panel expects the economy to expand 3.5%.
