Poland: Inflation comes in at highest level in over 20 years in August

Consumer prices rose 0.30% from the previous month in August, coming in below July’s 0.40% increase. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages was broadly steady in August while growth in prices for transport moderated.

Inflation increased to 5.5% in August from July’s 5.0%. August’s result was the highest inflation rate since June 2001. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.7% in August (July: 3.4%). Finally, core inflation ticked up to 3.9% in August, from the previous month’s 3.7%.
