In April, consumer prices added 0.78% over the previous month, which more than tripled the 0.23% rise observed in March. The result mainly reflected an increase in housing as well as in food prices. As a result, annual headline inflation rose from 2.6% in March to 3.0% in April. Nevertheless, annual average inflation, which is the reference rate used by the Central Bank as a guide for monetary policy, edged down from 4.4% in March to 4.2% in April. The Central Bank expects inflation to settle within its target of 4.0%
