Netherlands Business Confidence

Businesses remain confident in July, despite moderation from over-four-year high

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, moderated from June’s 4.6, which had marked the highest reading in over four years, to 3.7 in July, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Despite the moderation, the index remained well above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, July’s moderation mainly reflected that Dutch producers were less positive regarding their future output in the next three months and, to a lesser extent, that they were less optimistic about their order books. Conversely, their assessment of their stocks of finished products was broadly unchanged compared to June.

For 2015, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 5.6%, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.1%.
