Netherlands Business Confidence

Business confidence reaches highest level in three and a half years

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, rose from 2.0 points in October to 2.4 points in November, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This marks the highest level in business confidence since May 2011. As a result of the increase, the index is further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, November’s improvement in overall business confidence occurred primarily because producers were more positive about their output as well as their stocks of finished products over the next three months. However, a slight deterioration was recorded in producers’ sentiment regarding their order positions compared to the previous month.

For 2014, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 1.2%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 2.2%, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
