Malaysia: Growth in industrial production picks up in April

Industrial production increased 3.0% in April over the same month last year. The figure came in above the 2.8% increase tallied in March. April’s result showed notable increases across all components of the index, with electricity being the strongest.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 0.8% in April, which marked a more severe contraction compared to March’s 0.4% decrease. As a result, annual average growth in industrial production inched down to 3.7% from March’s 3.8%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects industrial output to expand 3.5%
