In September, consumer prices rose 0.7% over the previous month, which was well above the 0.2% rise recorded in August. According to the statistical institute, the result mainly reflected higher prices for clothing and footwear. As a result of the monthly price increase, annual headline inflation inched up from 3.3% in August to 3.4% in September. On the other hand, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) inched down from 3.6% in July to 3.5% in August, the latest month for which data are available.
