Korea: Business confidence remains constant in December
November 29, 2016
The Bank of Korea’s forward-looking business confidence indicator (BSI) for the manufacturing sector was 72 points in December, identical to November’s figure. The indicator remains firmly entrenched below the 100-point threshold that signals that businesses are more pessimistic than optimistic.
December’s figure reflects lower confidence among export-oriented firms, while domestic demand-oriented manufacturing companies became slightly more optimistic. The survey also showed that firms became more optimistic regarding sales and raw material purchase prices, although firms’ confidence in their profitability was down marginally compared to November.
