Indonesia: Retail sales growth picks up pace in July

Retail sales increased 8.7% year on year in July (June: +4.1% yoy). Looking at the details of the release, motor vehicles, parts and accessories sales plus cultural and recreation goods sales gained steam. Conversely, information and communication equipment sales contracted at a softer pace than in June, while food, beverages, and tobacco sales slowed.

Meanwhile, annual average retail sales growth rose to 7.2% in July (June: +6.2%). This signals an improving trend in the retail trade sector.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see private consumption rising 5.0% in 2022, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, panelists see private consumption increasing 5.1%.
