Indonesia: Growth in retail sales picks up in August
October 12, 2016
Retail sales in August expanded 14.4% over the same month last year, according to Bank Indonesia’s Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The expansion was above the revised 6.3% increase observed in the previous month (previously reported: +6.8% year-on-year). According to the Bank, August’s acceleration was driven chiefly by higher sales of food, beverages and tobacco.
Annual average growth in retail sales rose from 10.4% in July to 11.1% in August. According to the survey, retailers expect sales to rise to a 15.7% annual increase in September.
