In February, retail sales rose 10.1% over the same month last year. The print came in above the 9.1% expansion seen in January, but well below market analysts' expectations, which had retail sales increasing a robust 17.0%. According to the statistical office, the acceleration compared to February came on the back of stronger sales of durable goods as well as of fuels. In seasonally adjusted terms, retail sales rose 0.3% in the three-month period ending in February compared to the previous period ending in November, which was below the 0.9% increase recorded in January.
