Inflation accelerates in July

In July, consumer prices rose 0.69% over the previous month, which came in above the 0.44% rise tallied in June. In July, prices for food and housing increased the most over the previous month, while prices for transport saw the largest drop.

July’s inflation came in at 4.6%, which was above June’s 4.4% reading and was the highest result since November 2013. Inflation is comfortably within the Central Bank’s tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0 percentage points around its target of 4.0%.

The Central Bank sees inflation ending this year at 4.00%, while it expects inflation to close 2017 at 4.25%. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists foresee inflation at 3.7% at the end of 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel also expects inflation of 3.7% at the end of 2017.
