Growth in economic activity inches up in August

In August, economic activity increased 2.5% from the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de la Actividad Económica). The result was slightly higher than July’s revised 2.4% increase (previously reported: +2.5% year-on-year).

Annual average growth inched down from 3.2% in July to 3.0% in August, which represented the lowest reading since November 2012.

FocusEconomics panelists expect that GDP will rise 3.5% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month's forecast. In 2017, the panel expects GDP growth to accelerate to 3.7%.
