Guatemala: Economic activity grows at slower pace in December

In December, economic activity increased 4.0% over the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result marked a slight moderation compared to November’s 4.1% expansion and the smallest gain in nearly two years.

Annual average growth inched down from 4.4% in November to 4.3% in December, which represented the lowest reading in over a year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.5% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.6%.
