Economic activity expands at the fastest pace in nearly seven years

In July, economic activity increased 5.0% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The expansion was an improvement over the 4.5% rise observed in June and marked the fastest growth rate since October 2007.

As a result, annual average growth in economic activity inched up from 3.6% in June to 3.7% in July.

The Central Bank expects the economy to grow between 3.3% and 3.9% in 2014. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.4% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.5%.
