Australia: Unemployment rate stable in January

Seasonally-adjusted employment increased by 12,900 in January, following 64,800 jobs added in December. January’s result was driven by an increase in part-time employment more than offsetting a decline in full-time employment.

Meanwhile, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was stable at December’s 4.2% in January. Moreover, the participation rate increased to 66.2% in January from 66.1% in December. However, the seasonally-adjusted underemployment rate inched up to 6.7% in January from 6.6% in December.
