Greece: Unemployment rate rises slightly in August

The number of unemployed in Greece increased by 1,700 in August, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result contrasted the 3,400 decrease in unemployed seen in July.

The unemployment rate increased slightly from July’s 23.3% to 23.4%. August’s figure was below that of the same month last year (August 2015: 24.6%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 23.7% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 22.8%.
