In December, the business confidence indicator published by the Ifo Institute rose to 107.2 points from 106.6 points in November. The reading marked the second consecutive monthly improvement after four consecutive declines, and contrasted market expectations that had the index falling to 106.1 points. The improvement over the previous month was entirely driven by higher business expectations, with its corresponding sub-indicator rising from 97.3 points in November to 98.4 points in December. Meanwhile, firms' current business conditions remained unchanged compared to the previous month.
