According to preliminary Central Bank estimates for the first quarter, GDP increased 3.8% over the same period last year. The reading came in below the 5.2% rise recorded in the fourth quarter and marks the lowest result recorded since the second quarter of 2011. At the sector level, the moderation was led by slower growth in industry. The industrial sector expanded 2.9% year-on-year, down from the 5.4% rise recorded in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, services increased 4.0% (Q4 2011: +3.4% yoy), while agriculture rose 2.3% (Q4 2011: +1.2% yoy).
