Chile Economic Activity

Economic activity accelerates in November

In November 2015, economic activity rose 1.8% over the same month of the previous last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMACEC). The figure slightly exceeded the 1.5% increase tallied in October. According to the Central Bank, November’s pickup mainly came on the back of gains in services, which more than offset a slowdown in mining.

On a monthly basis, economic activity in November fell 0.46% on a seasonally-adjusted basis, which was a greater decline than October’s milder 0.04% drop. Annual average growth in economic activity remained at October’s 2.1%.

Panelists participating in the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast see the economy growing 2.5% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects the economy to pick up the pace and expand 3.2%.
