Consumers turn pessimistic in February

In February, the consumer confidence index, (IPEC, indice de Percepcion de la Economia) published by Adimark GfK, dropped to 46.9 points from 51.7 points in January. Moreover, confidence was well below the level registered in the same month the year before, when the index stood at 56.9 points. The February fall saw consumer confidence dip under the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism, the first time since August 2010. Consumers were less upbeat about the economic outlook and also look less prone to make major purchases.
