Chile Consumer Confidence

Consumer confidence soars to highest level in almost seven years

In December, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, Indice de Percepcion de la Economia) jumped to 58.1 points from 53.4 points in November. With the monthly increase, confidence among consumers rose further above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism and reached the highest level since March 2006.

The improvement was broad-based as most subcategories rose notably over the previous month, especially the consumers' assessment regarding their current economic situation. Accordingly, consumers' willingness to make major purchases also improved.
