In September, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, Indice de Percepcion de la Economia) rose to 53.6 points from 52.4 points in August. The reading represents the highest level recorded since November 2010. With the monthly increase, confidence among consumers moved further above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. The improvement was broad-based as all subcategories improved over the previous month, especially consumers' assessment regarding the current economic situation, which reached the highest level in over two years. Accordingly, consumers' willingness to make major purchases improved, reaching the highest level since December 2010.
