In October, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, indice de Percepcion de la Economia), fell to 42.8 points, down from the 45.9 points rebound observed in September. With the monthly drop, consumer sentiment moved further below the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism, which suggests that consumption will weaken over the coming months. The drop was driven by a deterioration of the sub-components related to both the current and future national outlook. In addition, respondents reported a substantially lower willingness to make major purchases.
