Chile Business Confidence

Business confidence deteriorates in January

In January, the business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by Icare and the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez inched down from the 50.9 points recorded in December to 50.4 points. The index remains just barely above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

January's figure was driven by a deterioration in the mining sector, while trade, construction and industry recorded an improvement over the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed private investment to grow 4.0% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month's estimate. In 2015, the panel expects private investment to increase 6.1%.
