In September, consumer prices rose 1.1% over the previous month, which more than doubled the 0.5% increase recorded in August. The monthly reading reflected higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for transport, on the back of higher oil prices. As a result of the monthly increase, annual inflation jumped from 3.9% in August to 4.9% in September, the highest level since March 2011, and exceeded market expectations of a 4.5% rate. Annual average inflation followed suit and rose from 2.5% in August to 2.7%.
