The result was well above the 5.1% rise recorded in December and marked the fastest increase since November 2007. A month-on-month comparison corroborates the robust annual figure, as industrial production expanded 3.2% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms (December: -0.8% month-on-month). Moreover, the trend continues to improve, with the annual average variation in industrial production rising from 2.1% in December to 2.9% in January, which marks the third positive reading since January 2009.
