Growth in industrial production slows significantly in September

In September, industrial production rose 0.6% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, according to the National Statistical Institute. The figure was significantly below August’s 4.3% increase and marked a 10-month low. September’s reading came on the back of a fall in electricity, gas and steam, as well as a major slowdown in manufacturing.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production fell a seasonally-adjusted 1.1% in September, which was below the 0.2% fall recorded in the previous month. Nevertheless, average growth in industrial production in September remained stable at August’s 2.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production expanding 3.1% in 2015, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s Consensus. For 2016, panelists see industrial output growing 3.5%.
